Using VMware Server at Middlefield Campus
Starting a virtual machine
To start VMware on any PC in I-5, I-11, or the open lab, go to Start Menu
> VMware > VMware Server > VMware Server Console or
double-click the "VMware Server Console" icon on the desktop. At the prompt, choose "Local
host" and click OK. Click cancel if VMware asks to check for updates.
When you see the menu, click the folder icon labeled "Open Existing Virtual
Machine," choose the machine you want at the prompt, and click OK. The following
virtual machines are available:
- XAMPP (for Web development). Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl are installed.
- Oracle 11g (for Oracle database classes). Oracle Database 11g is installed.
- NJStar (for Chinese language classes). NJStar language software is installed.
- Pacific Pharmacy (for the pharmacy program). RxWin is installed.
- MySQL (for MySQL database classes). MySQL 5 is installed.
- InstantRails (for Ruby classes). Apache, Ruby, and Rails are installed.
A new page describing the virtual machine should appear. Choose "Start this virtual machine"
from the Commands menu on the left and log normally when Windows is ready. If
a prompt asks whether to create an identifier, choose "create" and click OK.
